Call For Tender: Event Planner For Huron Square Variety – Sept 21, 2024

Project: 2024 Huron Square Promotion and Activation Event
Event Date/Time: Sat Sept 21, 2024 | 2:00pm – 6:00pm
Location: Huron Square (between Huron St. & Dundas St. W.)

For the upcoming Huron Square Variety Event, we are looking for:

1. EVENT PLANNER

(A) **TOTAL COST: $7,000 CAD ALL INCLUSIVE** Flat event planner fee to cover general consultation & event planning, performances arrangement (minimum of five) and coordination, performers’ fee, sound system & technicians,, 3-4 cultural or activity booths with activities and materials/gifts provided free for attendees (CBIA will provide 1 table and 2 chairs for each booth). A further breakdown of this fee includes event planner on site duties, graphic design for event elements, media planning, social media platform and promotion, advertising production, post-event report;
(B) Breakdown cost for each item above to be provided (they can be grouped) in the tender
(C) Performances schedule & suggestions on cultural/activities booths – the inclusion of a photographic booth is mandatory.
(D) Optional cost shall be listed, if any (e.g.Photographer & Videographer, power generator) * Extra cost & arrangement on tables, chairs and/or furniture shall be specified in tender

Toronto Chinatown Mural Lane Naming Contest!

We have a special opportunity for our attendees to leave their marks on Chinatown. Chinatown Business Improvement Area (CBIA) is hosting a mural lane naming contest where attendees are invited to vote on a list of names to name the lane way while also being able to submit 2 of their own name suggestions.

Those who selected or suggested the most popular name (with the highest number of votes) will be entered into a draw to win one of the five prizes consisting of one great novel, and also $200 cheque each. The winning name will be forwarded to the City along with others for their final consideration and approval.

As a member of the Chinatown Business Improvement Area, you are invited to attend the 2023 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Time: Wednesday, October 25th at 1:00 PM.
Location: 287 Spadina Avenue (3rd Floor), Toronto, ON M5T 2E6 (In-person Meeting)

The purpose of this meeting is to go over the BIA’s budget and proposed activities for 2024. This program is paid for by a special levy charged to you and other commercial and industrial property owners and non-resident tenants of such properties. As a BIA member, the best way to participate in your BIA’s decisions on your behalf is to get involved. If you wish to obtain a copy of the complete proposed budget and audited financial statement, please contact the BIA at administrator@chinatownbia.com. Please also forward a copy of this notice to your non-residential tenants.

For those eligible to vote proof of BIA membership will be required. Please email your photo ID and either a business card, utility bill showing business/tenant name and address, or your City of Toronto property tax bill to Beryl Cher at administrator@chinatownbia.com.

2022 Toronto Chinatown Festival Is Back!

On August 20 & 21, 2022, the Toronto Chinatown Business Improvement Area (CBIA) will host the 22nd Toronto Chinatown Festival under the theme of the “Eight Immortals” (八仙), taking after the popular Chinese mythology. In Chinese mythology, the Eight Immortals are believed to know the secrets of nature. They represent separately male, female, the old, the young, the rich, the noble, the poor, and the humble.

After a turbulent whirlwind of events in the last two years, the CBIA is pleased to bring back the iconic annual festival bringing over 250,000 visitors every year during the two-day event. Visitors may expect an enchanted two-day program filled with cultural performances, traditional street eats, family activities on Huron Street, Dragon and Lion Dance performances and many more!

May is Asian Heritage Month in Canada, a time to reflect on and recognize the many contributions that Canadians of Asian heritage have made and continue to make to Canada. To celebrate this year’s Asian Heritage Month, Toronto Chinatown BIA is excited to announce the launch of 2022 Asian Heritage Month Scavenger Hunt from May 9 to June 5! Join this fun 4-week activity with your friends and family for a chance to win $250 each week!

How to play:

1. Download the GooseChase app on your phones and join the game with our unique game code: PBLL57

2. Complete missions from the game list and follow the instructions and earn your points!

3. Mission types include photo submissions, checking-in at specific locations, or answering trivia questions about Chinatown.

2022 Toronto Chinatown Lunar New Year Virtual Celebration

On February 5th, 2022, Toronto Chinatown BIA will host the 2022 Lunar New Year Celebrations in welcoming the Year of the Tiger .

In compliance with the City of Toronto’s COVID regulations in place, this year’s celebrations will take a hybrid-form bringing festivities virtually through a keepsake video along with a live Lion Dance performance outdoors in front of Chinatown Centre to chase away the bad spirits and negativity of last year and in welcoming a brand new year.

Workshop Registration: Yue Moon 完滿: Tiger With Wings 如虎添翼

Be part of the 2022 Lunar New Year celebrations and Yue Moon 完滿: Tiger With Wings 如虎添翼, a community-engaged public art project led by Paddy Leung and Meegan Lim in partnership with STEPS Public Art and Chinatown BIA.

Sign up to the online or in-person workshops happening between December 6-18! Participants will work alongside the Artist team in contributing to this year’s lantern design through storytelling, drawing and mixed media approaches that celebrate the Year of the Tiger & traditional Lunar New Year foods.

This is an intergenerational project open for members of Toronto’s Chinatown community and beyond that will lead to the production of the lantern installation in Toronto’s Chinatown celebrating the Lunar New Year!

Hong Luck & Chinatown BIA Celebrate 2021 Mid-Autumn Festival

Toronto Hong Luck Kung Fu Association and the Chinatown BIA, with support from the City of Toronto’s #ShowLoveTO initiative, will be celebrating this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival this Saturday, September 18th from 12pm to 5pm. Spectators can expect a traditional lion dance parade performed by Hong Luck through Chinatown.

AND THERE IS MORE! As a token of our appreciation and to thank you for your continued support of our local businesses, the Chinatown BIA will be giving out free lanterns to our visitors. We will be stationed at Dragon City Mall on Saturday, Sept 18 and Sunday Sept 19 from 1pm – 4pm. Since the quantities are very limited, we are giving away the lanterns to anyone who is able to show us receipts of your recent purchases made in Chinatown. The lantern giveaway will be first come first serve, and one (1) receipt in exchange for one (1) lantern. Maximum one (1) lantern per family.

The graphics on the lanterns are designed by local artist Allister Lee.

*NOTE: All visitors are asked to respect the Toronto Public Health COVID 19 guidelines. If you are sick or if you have been in contact with someone that is sick, please stay home.
