Reduce Energy Costs with Free Equipment Upgrades

Eligible small businesses in Ontario can access free energy-saving equipment upgrades through the Save on Energy Small Business Program. A free assessment helps identify eligible improvements that can reduce electricity use and operating costs.

Program Benefits: Eligible businesses may qualify for up to $3,000 in lighting upgrades and up to $2,500 for eligible refrigeration and smart thermostat upgrades.

There is no cost for the assessment or eligible upgrades covered by the program.

What Can the Program Help With?

The program helps eligible small businesses improve energy efficiency through qualifying equipment upgrades.

  • Lighting upgrades: Improve lighting efficiency while reducing electricity consumption.

  • Refrigeration upgrades: Improve the efficiency of eligible refrigeration equipment.

  • Smart thermostats: Help manage heating and cooling energy use with eligible smart thermostat upgrades.

The available upgrades are determined through an assessment by a qualified program representative.

Who Is Eligible?

To participate, your business must:

  • Be located in Ontario and have an operating capacity of 50 or fewer employees.
  • Own or lease its business space.
  • Obtain landlord or building-owner consent if the business is a tenant.

Previous participation in certain Save on Energy programs may affect which upgrades are available. Contact the program team to confirm your eligibility and available measures.

How Does It Work?

1. Apply online, by phone or by email

Reach out to schedule a free on-site assessment. We’ll help identify energy-efficiency opportunities for your business.

2. Review your options

After the assessment, you’ll be presented with options for free upgrades. If you choose to proceed, you’ll be sent a participant agreement and work order.

3. Get your upgrades

Our qualified delivery partners will handle the entire installation process on your behalf—from scheduling all the way to cleanup.
